Coal Creek Canyon Park and Recreation District

Master Plan

The Coal Creek Canyon Park & Recreation District (CCCPRD or "The District") developed a Park and Recreation Master Plan with the assistance of Norris Design, Inc. and with the help and input of Coal Creek Canyon residents. The project was funded through a Planning Grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO). The plan created a roadmap for ensuring an appropriate balance of recreation amenities throughout the community now and into the future by evaluating potential parks, open space, trails and recreational facilities and amenities.

The Board approved the adoption of the Master Plan at the May 18th, 2011, Regular Board meeting. The public is welcome to review the plan at any time online. Click here to view the Master Plan.

A steering committee comprised of Coal Creek Canyon residents was formed to guide the direction of the Master Plan project. The committee's first task was to evaluate a number of consultants responding to the District's RFP and submit to the Board a recommendation for hiring a consultant. The Board has selected Norris Design, Inc. to provide the professional services needed to create the Master Plan.

The next step was to collect input and answer questions from the community. Norris conducted a series of focus group sessions with residents of Coal Creek Canyon during the week of October 11th. Also, a Public Input Session was held on October 14th at the CCCIA Hall providing an overview of the project and gathering opinions from residents regarding their recreation needs.

These activities have been used to construct a survey that was mailed to District residents. By completing the questionnaire, you have provided the District with much-needed information on the kinds of services and facilities that serve your recreational needs. Thank you for your time providing the District with this valuable information.

The team from Norris has worked on compiling various pieces of data on our community and analyzing residents' needs. A public meeting on the Needs Assessment was held on January 12th, 2011.

The draft recommendations were presented by Norris in a public meeting held on March 16th, 2011. The presentation was well attended by residents.

The Master Plan has been completed and was presented to the Board at their April 6th Board meeting. Thank you to Norris Design and to all the residents who took the time to provide input or volunteer their time in completing this effort.
